Signing Day with LCHS Senior, Luke Featherolf!

Congratulations to Luke Fetherolf, a senior at LCHS, who signed a letter of intent with Union Commonwealth University, located in Barbourville, KY, on Friday, February 27th, to further his education and football career. The signing ceremony took place in the LCHS library, attended by Luke's coaches, teammates, and family, to celebrate the memorable event.

LCHS Football Coach Alan Short delivered heartfelt remarks reflecting on Luke's four-year journey with the LC Bulldogs. “To put it simply, he is one of a kind. I believe everyone in this room would agree that he is an exceptionally talented football player. Moreover, he is an even better person,” he stated. He continued, “Luke, your time as a Bulldog has made a lasting impact on this program. You have elevated the standards, shaped the culture, and represented this community with great pride. We are incredibly proud of you, grateful for your influence, and excited to see you continue to grow, compete, and succeed at the next level.”

Mr. Darin Fetherolf, Luke’s father, expressed his pride in his son's strong faith and work ethic, noting that Luke developed a profound love for sports at a very young age.

In a humble expression of gratitude, Luke shared, "First of all, nothing is possible without God in your life. If you don't have God in your life, you won't be successful. I want to thank all my coaches and teammates for being there for me. My parents, for always putting in the blood, sweat, and tears for me. Nothing is possible without you guys and for you being by my side. And to all my coaches, I just want to thank you guys. Thank you for everything!"

Again, we congratulate Luke on this amazing accomplishment! We wish him the very best in his future endeavors at Union Commonwealth University! #LCisHome

Congratulations to LCHS Agriculture Teacher, Mrs. Melissa Blackburn, for being recognized on Wednesday, February 25, 2025, as the Big Sandy River Region Nominee for the Golden Owl Award! The Golden Owl Award is awarded to the state’s top agriculture teachers, with nominations collected from local students, parents, fellow teachers, and community members. Mrs. Blackburn was presented with a personalized plaque and received a $500 check from Ms. Sheldon McKinney, Executive Director of the KY FFA Foundation.

During the ceremony, several students shared how Mrs. Blackburn has impacted them personally through her classes. Agriculture sophomore, Samantha Spradlin, shared, “Mrs. Blackburn inspires me to do better each day and makes learning about agriculture interesting and fun.” LCHS FFA President, Mikka Horn, expressed, “Mrs. Blackburn is a role model who encouraged and motivated me to step up in situations where I was nervous. This helped me to grow and develop confidence. She has shown me how much teachers care about their students!” LCHS co-worker, Crystal Cavins, shared, “Mrs. Blackburn goes above and beyond for her students and school. I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this award!”

Mrs. Blackburn was visibly emotional when asked about the significance of this award. “This is a dream award because it comes from my students! It isn’t determined by measurable means. My students recognized this in me, and that is why it means so much!” Again, congratulations to Mrs. Blackburn, who truly goes above and beyond for her students, schools, and community. We value the important contributions she makes in preparing our LC students to become future leaders in agriculture and other industries. #LCisHome
