On Friday, April 10th, the Lawrence County Gifted and Talented Program (GATE grades 4-8) participated in their annual Discovery Day at the Lawrence County Community Center. This is a day of learning and FUN, featuring several activities and special guests.
The morning sessions included the Lawrence County Extension Office, which provided four stations, including their very popular Smoothie Bike. The Lawrence County STLP groups and our Exchange Students presented throughout the morning, along with an art station led by a group from the LCHS Art Department. We also had a couple of very special alumni from Lawrence County join us. Joey Moore, now a Certified Flight Instructor at Marshall University, came to talk about the Aviation Program. Another special guest, Jeremy Webb, the Admissions, Public Relations, and Recruitment Coordinator for the Craft Academy at Morehead State University, spoke with the students about advanced opportunities they may have as Juniors and Seniors in high school. Lastly, the Kentucky Science Center in Louisville, KY, hosted stations facilitated by our LCHS GATE students and ended the day with an explosive science demonstration.
We want to thank all of our facilitators and chaperones for once again making this a wonderful day with great experiences and opportunities for our GATE students. We thank Mrs. McClanahan for organizing this amazing event for our GATE students! Until next year….

Celebrating a Milestone Achievement at LC Schools!
Today, we are thrilled to congratulate one of our own at LC Schools! Our Chief Academic Officer, Mrs. Brady, recently earned her doctoral degree in education, and we are proud to now call her Dr. Brady! This degree represents the highest level of academic achievement in the field of education. Her unwavering dedication toward this goal inspires us all. We are proud of her dedication to education and this remarkable accomplishment in reaching this significant milestone!
Dr. Brady shared her thoughts on what earning her degree means to her, inspiring us to pursue our own goals with perseverance and passion. "After a lot of work, reflection, and growth, I’m proud to share that I successfully passed my doctoral defense. My work focused on retaining teachers in high-need schools. This is something I’ve seen up close and care deeply about. This journey reinforced what I believe: when leaders are intentional, supportive, and focused on building strong systems, teachers stay, and students benefit. With that in mind, leaders also need the support and resources to build those systems well.
'People don’t leave jobs, they leave environments, and great leaders create environments worth staying in.'
"I am incredibly grateful for the support from my district throughout this process. I’m especially thankful for Mrs. Webb, who allowed me to try new ways to support teachers and leaders and trusted me with that work, as well as the DRT team for their support, ideas, and for sharing in the experience throughout this journey of change.
And a good reminder through it all-make sure to have a confetti moment every day. Celebrate the progress, the small wins, and the milestones along the way." - Dr. Myram Brady
