Urgent Attention! TRAFFIC ALERT: Starting Monday, August 31st
Late this week, LC Schools received notification about the upcoming restoration project for the Louisa/Fort Gay bridge deck.
- This project is projected to last two months.
- The construction will affect traffic in the downtown area.
- Our primary concern is that morning drop-off and dismissal at Louisa East Elementary School will be significantly disrupted.
Traffic Guidelines to Follow:
- Important! Do NOT block any intersections at any time!
- Please enter at the red light on Main Cross Street or Madison Street.
- The exit route should remain normal, but please **do not line up** along Franklin Street as this will obstruct buses traveling between the West and East Elementary Schools.
The Louisa Police Department has provided a map indicating acceptable streets in yellow and
non-acceptable streets in orange where lining up is not permitted.
Please allow extra time for traffic delays and exercise patience during this construction process! #LCisHome

The Lawrence County Board of Education has set the tax rates for SY 2026-2027 on August 27, 2026.
• Real Estate Tax Rate: 61.9 cents per $100 of assessed value
• Personal Property Tax Rate: 62.5 cents per $100 of assessed value
• Motor Vehicle/Watercraft Tax Rate: 35.0 cents per $100 of assessed value
• Utility Tax Rate: 3.0%
Note: This rate represents the state-calculated “compensating rate with exonerations” and is not subject to a public recall vote under KRS 132.017.

Take a moment to explore the latest happenings within our school district! This publication highlights each of our LC Board of Education meetings. Be sure to keep an eye out for highlighted features of each of our schools and their students throughout the year!
As we begin this school year, we celebrated our school district's summer achievements! The board presented the LC Food Service staff with certificates for providing over 57,000 meals to our LC families. Blaine Middle School celebrated with an open house to welcome the STAR Academy, which awarded a $1,000,000 grant to enhance 7th- and 8th-grade classes. The Back-to-School luncheon was also a profound success, uniting our teachers and staff throughout the district. The Lawrence County Professional Learning Conference 7.0 (LCPLC) offered sessions that taught positive, proven teaching techniques.
As we kick-start the new school year, we are excited to announce the start of design schematics and renovation work for Louisa East and the new Louisa West (formerly the LC Community Center). This initiative will create space for a first-grade wing at LEES. Additionally, our LWES preschool and kindergarten will transition into their newly renovated building. We can’t wait to provide these upgraded facilities to our students and families!
