On Friday, April 10th, the Lawrence County Gifted and Talented Program (GATE grades 4-8) participated in their annual Discovery Day at the Lawrence County Community Center. This is a day of learning and FUN, featuring several activities and special guests.
The morning sessions included the Lawrence County Extension Office, which provided four stations, including their very popular Smoothie Bike. The Lawrence County STLP groups and our Exchange Students presented throughout the morning, along with an art station led by a group from the LCHS Art Department. We also had a couple of very special alumni from Lawrence County join us. Joey Moore, now a Certified Flight Instructor at Marshall University, came to talk about the Aviation Program. Another special guest, Jeremy Webb, the Admissions, Public Relations, and Recruitment Coordinator for the Craft Academy at Morehead State University, spoke with the students about advanced opportunities they may have as Juniors and Seniors in high school. Lastly, the Kentucky Science Center in Louisville, KY, hosted stations facilitated by our LCHS GATE students and ended the day with an explosive science demonstration.
We want to thank all of our facilitators and chaperones for once again making this a wonderful day with great experiences and opportunities for our GATE students. We thank Mrs. McClanahan for organizing this amazing event for our GATE students! Until next year….

- Due to missed days from inclement weather, school will now be in session for students and staff on Monday, March 30th,
and Tuesday, March 31st. (Educational Enhancement Forms are available through the school office.)
- Spring Break is Wednesday, April 1st, through Friday, April 3rd.
- Election Day on Tuesday, May 19th, will see all schools CLOSED. (This day will serve as a Professional Development (PD)
day for our district staff.)
- Memorial Day on Monday, May 25th, will also have all schools CLOSED for the holiday.
- The LCHS Graduation Ceremony is scheduled for Friday, May 29th, at 7 PM in the LCHS gymnasium.
- The last day of school for students will be Thursday, June 4th! (Please note: June 1st-4th will feature the end-of-the-year
assemblies and award day ceremonies for schools across the district.)

Lawrence County Family, Due to recent weather cancellations (including just this week), we must adjust our school calendar to meet state requirements. The past two years, the weather has worked against us. Because we had to miss another day this week, and the Kentucky General Assembly has not moved to grant districts calendar relief yet, we will now use the following. Key Calendar Adjustments: Monday, March 30 & Tuesday, March 31: Now in session for students. Tuesday, May 19 (Election Day): No school for students. While new laws allow school during elections even when a building is a polling place, we are keeping buildings closed to students this year on Election Day to ensure their safety. Monday, May 25 (Memorial Day): Schools will remain closed. Friday, May 29: Graduation. Thursday, June 4: Final day of school for students. It is very important that students attend those final days in June to officially complete the year. Our principals and staff are already working to schedule finals, field trips, and awards ceremonies during that last week to keep the end of the year meaningful and engaging. I fully realize there isn't a perfect solution, but sometimes in life there simply isn't one. This plan allows us to protect the majority of Spring Break, have our buildings closed for students on Election Day, and observe Memorial Day. The Lawrence County Board of Education has officially approved the calendar for the 2026-2027 school year! The first day of school for students is set for Wednesday, August 12th, 2026! #LCisHome
Lawrence County Schools will be on a regular schedule today, Wednesday, March 18. Bus routes have been rechecked this morning and are good to go.

Save the Date! LC Schools is excited to celebrate Music in Our Schools Month (MIOSM) to celebrate the significance of music education in our schools. LCHS music teachers, Mr. Smith and Mr. Pack, along with our district music teachers, warmly invite the LC community to the MIOSM Concert, a wonderful occasion to collaborate and honor our students throughout the district on their musical accomplishments. Also, this year, the LC Music Hall of Fame will recognize the outstanding contributions of Ms. Angel Opell and Mrs. Sean Harris. Be sure to plan for a morning filled with amazing performances by our talented LC students! It promises to be a fantastic program!

Update on the 2025-2026 School Calendar
We want to share an important calendar update regarding the remainder of our school year. Due to recent missed days, our current last day of school for students is now Friday, June 5. We are closely watching two school calendar requirement bills in the General Assembly, HB 635 and HB 631, which could offer some relief; however, neither has passed yet. If we miss any more school days and the state does not grant relief, we will use the first two days of Spring Break, Monday, March 30th and Tuesday, March 31st, as makeup days for students. If these new laws are passed, we will work with the state to make adjustments to our calendar to end the year a few days earlier. As a reminder, there will be no school for students on May 19 (Election Day and professional development day for staff) or May 25 (Memorial Day). We will keep our Lawrence County families and staff updated as soon as we have more information.

Lawrence County Schools will have a traditional snow day today, Tuesday, February 24. Additional snowfall overnight recovered many routes across our county, and temperatures will not allow thawing until up in the afternoon. Stay safe and warm! #LCSIsHome
