Chase Kenderick- Governor's Scholar Program
“Applying to the 5-week Governor's Scholar Program was a bit of a challenge, but it was absolutely worth the effort! I truly enjoyed my experience at Murray State University. One highlight of the program was a session with a guest speaker from the National Stem Cell Foundation (NSCF). I encourage students to apply for this opportunity! I am grateful for the new connections I've made with people from all over Kentucky. The fresh ideas, techniques, skills, and leadership I've gained during these five weeks away from home have been invaluable!”
Preslie Laney- Governor's Scholar Program
“I found that applying to the Governor's Scholar Program was an intense process, but the experience was incredibly rewarding! At first, I was anxious about being away from home for five weeks. However, I quickly made connections with wonderful friends, and we still stay in touch and make plans together. This program expanded my network, enhanced my leadership skills, and equipped me for college. I also have a stronger appreciation for community now. This truly was the best summer I could have ever hoped for!”
Elle Parsley- Rogers Scholar & Governors Scholar Entrepreneur Program
“This past summer, I spent a week with the Rogers Scholar Program at Morehead State University, participating in various community service activities. I also participated in the Governors Scholar Entrepreneur Program at the University of Kentucky for three weeks. During this time, I connected with fellow students from diverse backgrounds and cultures across the state. At first, I felt a bit overwhelmed by the program’s 3-week stay, but by the end, I wished it would last longer! It was truly an incredible experience, and I highly encourage others to apply for either of these great programs!”
Aubrey Brady- Rogers Leads Program
“This year was the first year of the Rogers Leads Program! I gained invaluable insights into entrepreneurship through this experience. We met with a 15-year-old entrepreneur and discussed their business in detail. Following that, we collaborated in groups to develop our own business plans, which we then presented to the judges. One key takeaway for me was that the entrepreneurial journey can present unexpected challenges. However, it’s important to stay focused and keep working until you reach your goals! This was an incredible experience. I am grateful to have been a part of it!”
Jordan Gibbons- Rogers Explorers Program
“I was truly eager to apply for this program! Although I felt a bit nervous at first since I didn’t know anyone, I soon discovered it was an excellent opportunity to connect with new people. One highlight for me was participating in the occupational therapy class. It definitely changed my perspective on the ways in which individuals with disabilities require and receive support. Overall, it was a fantastic experience! I gained leadership skills and made wonderful friendships!”
Paisley Jones- Rogers Explorers Program
“The Rogers Explorers Program offered a chance to participate in sessions centered around nursing, drama, and community service. This experience also broadened my perspective on what college life might look like one day. My suggestion to other students is to apply and not let your nerves hold you back! I was anxious about not knowing anyone, but you will definitely connect and make friends. It’s a wonderful program that will help you develop into your future self!”

LC Schools Bus #201 was involved in a minor fender-bender after picking up students from Louisa West and Louisa East. Thankfully, there were no injuries! The police are on the scene and are currently clearing the accident. Please be aware that students may arrive home a few minutes later than usual due to the event! Thank you! #LCisHome

The Lawrence County Board of Education has set the tax rates for SY 2026-2027 on August 27, 2026.
• Real Estate Tax Rate: 61.9 cents per $100 of assessed value
• Personal Property Tax Rate: 62.5 cents per $100 of assessed value
• Motor Vehicle/Watercraft Tax Rate: 35.0 cents per $100 of assessed value
• Utility Tax Rate: 3.0%
Note: This rate represents the state-calculated “compensating rate with exonerations” and is not subject to a public recall vote under KRS 132.017.

Today, Mrs. Slone’s eighth-grade art students began their project on the new Wildcat Lounge for the school! This exciting venture was led by Mrs. Ferguson, who recalled that the school once had a reward area for their students. So, the faculty found a dedicated space, and the Wildcat Lounge was born! The BES staff definitely wanted their students to be involved in the transformation and feel a sense of ownership of the space, so they decided to let the students paint the wall artwork. With the help of an old school projector, the students traced the designs, rolled up their sleeves, and started painting! As you can see, they are doing an incredible job! And this is only the beginning! We will keep you updated on the Wildcat Lounge's progress and reveal the completed project soon! #LCisHome

As we begin this school year, we celebrated our school district's summer achievements! The board presented the LC Food Service staff with certificates for providing over 57,000 meals to our LC families. Blaine Middle School celebrated with an open house to welcome the STAR Academy, which awarded a $1,000,000 grant to enhance 7th- and 8th-grade classes. The Back-to-School luncheon was also a profound success, uniting our teachers and staff throughout the district. The Lawrence County Professional Learning Conference 7.0 (LCPLC) offered sessions that taught positive, proven teaching techniques.
As we kick-start the new school year, we are excited to announce the start of design schematics and renovation work for Louisa East and the new Louisa West (formerly the LC Community Center). This initiative will create space for a first-grade wing at LEES. Additionally, our LWES preschool and kindergarten will transition into their newly renovated building. We can’t wait to provide these upgraded facilities to our students and families!
