Band & Beginning Band

Mr. Newman

Everything is still just Ducky!

2009-2010

Welcome to the Arts and Humanities,

Band and Beginning Band.

All students in grades 4 through 8 will need to have a notebook and pencil just for Arts and Humanities. There will be a list of materials and classroom procedure and policy for all students available the first week of school. Kindergarten through 3rd grade, materials will be supplied as needed. All major project materials will be provided for art and music.

Band students, there will be an informational handout that covers all of the necessary items you will need, as well as rules and requirements for participating in the band program at Fallsburg Elementary. Practice at home is an essential requirement in order for you to be successful in band. There will be written and performance tests to assess progress and development. As soon as the schedules settles in and I can work on getting  time slots figured out, we will start band for everyone that is interested in participating.

UPDATE #2 for all band classes: So far we've had a pretty good start with the 7th Grade Band as well as the 6th Grade Band getting to continue from last year's 5th grade group. Speaking of 5th Grade Band, we're moving along well enough for only being able to meet once a week. You've got to practice at home to make up for the lack of in class time!! Everyone did a fine job at the program before Christmas Break!! You should be proud!

The First 9 weeks of Arts and Humanities is going to focus on the elements of music and the Baroque Period. You will need a notebook and pencil everyday we are in class.

The second nine weeks has brought a continuance of the mask project for the 8th grade as well as the introduction of the E.V.A. Arts and Humanities books that were picked up for us to use last year in both grades 5 and 8.

The second semester will bring a conclusion to the 8th grade mask project.

The Primary Grades did a super job with their Christmas Program Preparations!! We had an exceptionally  nice program to present to the school and community this year.

The 7th Grade Dulcimer Group gave a terrific performance on their instruments at the program!! Way to go guys!!

I want to thank Ms. Collins, Mrs. Prince and Mr. Blankenship for contributing their vocal skills and talent in their presentations at the program. I also want to thank my sons for coming in and playing banjo and bass Guitar for "Christmas Time's a Comin'"

I will provide further information as the school year progresses, as well as include photographs of students in action while creating works of art, performing music, dancing and acting. I am looking forward to an exciting 2009-2010 year at Fallsburg Elementary School. So let's get hoppin' right past our Winter Break and into the second semester!
