Assessment
Our assessment program is Work Sampling System and is intended to monitor individual student progress. Teachers will have a more detailed discussion and review of this process when you attend the progress report meetings indicated below. Briefly, Work Sampling is an authentic performance-based assessment tool. Work Sampling is designed to help classroom teachers document and evaluate children's skills, knowledge, behaviors and accomplishments across a wide variety of curriculum areas on multiple occasions in order to enhance teaching and learning and to keep track of each child's individual achievement. Students are observed during their regular classroom activities, and their progress is recorded three times a year with a Developmental Checklist, a portfolio collection, and a summary report.
2010-2011 school year Work Sampling Conferences:
November 11th and 12th
February 10th and 11th-tentative
April 28th and 29th-tentative
Why was Work Sampling System selected for use in Lawrence County Early Learning Center? Work Sampling is a research-based, developmentally appropriate assessment that uses multiple measures and is consistent with the state's early learning and elementary level standards. State approved Work Sampling System is used in Lawrence County Early Learning Center as a continuous assessment tool that fulfills the reporting requirements to families.
