Dear Parent:

According to data released by the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), the Lawrence County School District (LCSD) met 8 out of 13 No Child Left Behind (NCLB) target goals (61.5%) but did not make Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP).  Under the NCLB, a district that does not meet the expected annual progress for five years is identified for corrective action.  The LCSD has been identified for District Corrective Action Year 4.  The complete NCLB report is available on the KDE web site at http://www.education.ky.gov/ .  Click on the Open House logo on the right side of the page; then click on Achievement; then No Child Left Behind Reports; or visit the Lawrence County Board of Education central office for a copy of the report.

As a district identified for corrective action, we are required to revise our District Improvement Plan (DIP) and develop a corrective action plan (CAP).  These Plans identify actions intended to improve student achievement throughout the district.  These Plans will include strategies to promote effective parental involvement and improve teaching along with resources and programs in reading and math for students who qualify for a free/reduced lunch and/or for those students who are disabled.

A copy of the DIP/CAP can be viewed by visiting the district’s web site at www.lawrence.k12.us .  If you have questions or wish additional information please contact Cassandra Webb, Chief Academic Officer; Edris Humphrey, Director of Finance/Federal Programs/Title I Coordinator; or Mike Armstrong, Superintendent by calling 606-638-9671.

Respectfully,

Mike Armstrong

Superintendent
