Frequently Asked Questions H1N1 Flu Vaccine Questions and Answers H1N1 Flu Vaccination Resources SIGNS & SYMPTOMS
Signs and symptoms of H1N1 Flu include: sudden onset of illness, fever higher than 100 degrees, chills, cough, headache, sore throat, stuffy nose, muscle aches, fatigue, diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and/or exhaustion.
HIGH RISK STUDENTS
Students with chronic health problems including immunodeficiency, cerebral palsy, chronic lung disease, diabetes, heart disease, asthma, metabolic conditions, neurological and neuromuscular disorders as well as individuals who are pregnant are at higher risk of having complications from H1N1 Flu. In the event that the H1N1 Flu becomes wide spread, parents and guardians of high risk children may need to request intervention options from the school that would allow these students to receive alternative assistance or enter the homebound program.

PREVENTION
The following precautionary practices can help lessen the risk of illness for your child:
1. Wash hands frequently (for 20 seconds or the time it takes to sing the "Happy Birthday" song twice).
2. Avoid touching eyes, nose, or mouth.
3. Regularly clean areas and items that have frequent hand contact (it is not necessary to disinfect beyond normal cleaning).
4. Cover mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing with tissue or the bend of your elbow (discard tissues & wash hands).
5. Do not share eating utensils, drink from the same cup, or share toothbrushes.
6. Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
